Stewarding the Land, Stewarding Peace, Stewarding our Future
The Oakland Peace Center and the First Christian Church of Oakland have signed a ground lease agreement, granting the Oakland Peace Center stewardship of the property at Fairmount and 29th. This milestone is a significant step forward in our mission to create an oasis of peace amidst the gentrification of downtown Oakland.
As you may know, the Oakland Peace Center is a community of organizations working together to promote access, equity, and peace in Oakland and beyond. We are excited to partner with a non-profit real estate developer to develop the land and provide community space for events, office rental space, and more. We believe that access to safe and welcoming community spaces is vital to building strong, resilient communities.
We are grateful for the support of our community, and we know that we could not have come this far without your help. Your generosity has helped us make this vision a reality, and we hope you will continue to support us as we move forward with this exciting new project.
As stewards of this sacred space, we are committed to promoting community building and combating gentrification. This historical building is a symbol of the diverse communities that have called Oakland home for generations, and we are dedicated to ensuring it remains a vital part of the city's cultural heritage.
We envision this space as a hub for community engagement, where diverse voices can come together to promote peace, justice, and equality. We invite you to join us in this important work and help us create a brighter future for all.
Thank you for being a part of our community and for supporting our mission. We look forward to sharing this new chapter with you and continuing to work together towards a racial and economic justice.
